As the name implies, Butterfly Bush is a shrub that attracts butterflies.

And I can vouch for the fact that the butterflies really do like this plant! During the summer, there’s always at least one flying around the flowers.

Butterfly bush is very easy to grow and produces long beautiful stems of blue, purple, pink or white flowers that bloom all summer long (especially if you remove them when they have finished blooming).

This shrub doesn’t like to sit in water, but can be planted in clay soil as long as there is good drainage.

Planting the root ball a little higher than normal and making sure not to mulch too close to the stem will help with this.

One word of caution: It can be invasive if it’s planted in the right conditions, so check with your local nursery or gardening friends to see if it might be a problem in your area.
